DUTCH SHEPHERDS
ABOUT THE BREED
The Dutch Shepherd is a highly versatile and intelligent working dog, originating from the Netherlands. Known for its adaptability and keen work ethic, this breed has been historically utilized for herding, police work, and protection sports. Dutch Shepherds are medium-sized, muscular dogs with a balanced build, typically standing between 21.5 to 24.5 inches tall and weighing between 50 to 70 pounds. Their coat can be short, long, or rough, with the most common colors being brindle shades of gold or silver.
Due to their handler focus and high drive, Dutch Shepherds excel in police and military work, as well as protection sports. Their sharp intelligence and trainability make them exceptional in roles requiring quick thinking and responsiveness. Additionally, Dutch Shepherds' high energy levels and athleticism allow them to perform well in various other dog sports, including agility, obedience, dock diving, and scentwork and more. However, it is their loyal nature, coupled with a strong drive to please their owners, that truly sets them apart.
FCI VERSUS KNPV - WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
At Pytka Performance K9, we take pride in primarily breeding FCI Dutch Shepherds, which are renowned for their adherence to breed standards and exceptional versatility across a wide range of working roles. FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) Dutch Shepherds are meticulously bred with a strong focus on both structure and temperament, resulting in dogs that are not only balanced in character but also physically sound. This careful breeding makes our FCI Dutchies more universal, capable of excelling in diverse environments and various dog sports.
Our FCI Dutch Shepherds are particularly well-suited for IGP, where their strong work ethic, intelligence, and drive are showcased. However, their versatility doesn’t end there. These dogs have also found remarkable success in other sports, such as dog diving, where their athleticism shines, and competitive obedience, where their eagerness to please and sharp focus are clear advantages. Additionally, their agility and responsiveness make them excellent contenders in agility competitions, and they have proven to be highly adaptable to any challenge presented to them.
While our primary focus is on FCI lines, we recognize the unique strengths that KNPV (Koninklijke Nederlandse Politiehond Vereniging) bloodlines can offer, particularly in specialized working roles. KNPV Dutch Shepherds are often bred with an emphasis on intense working drives and may be crossed with Malinois, creating dogs that are highly specialized for tasks such as police work or protection. However, these dogs do not always conform to the same strict breed standards as FCI lines, which can result in a different type of working dog. By occasionally incorporating KNPV blood into our breeding program, we are able to tailor specific litters to meet certain goals, whether it's enhancing drive, tenacity, or a particular skill set.
Through this selective and intentional approach to breeding, we aim to produce Dutch Shepherds that are not only well-rounded and capable of performing at the highest levels in a variety of disciplines but also maintain the integrity and quality of the breed. Our dogs are bred to be champions, not just in the competitive arena but also as loyal companions and reliable working partners. Whether in sports, work, or play, our FCI Dutch Shepherds are equipped to excel and thrive.

UPCOMING LITTERS
Grimm de Las Flores x Hollandse Herder vom Holops Enjoy Enja
Planned March 2026
This Dutch Shepherd litter from Hollandse Herder vom Holops Enjoy Enja × Grimm de Las Flores (PSA1) pairs two proven working pedigrees, combining FCI structure and drive with versatile, real-world capability.
Enja (BH-VT, IGP1, IGP2, GPr3) is a highly biddable, environmentally sound female with excellent obedience, grip development, and clear-headedness. Enja has successfully trialed across multiple countries and demonstrates the nerve and work ethic needed for upper-level IGP. Her pedigree is anchored by Messi van le Dobry (IPO3, FH1, VZH), a highly respected male known for producing dogs with full grips, strong focus, and balanced aggression. Messi’s offspring are known for excelling in both sport and service work, making his influence especially valuable for producing versatile, stable working dogs.
Enja’s dam line includes Dakar van de Zeelberg (IGP3, KNPV PH1, PH2, Object Bewaking)—a rare combination of IGP and full KNPV certifications—known for power, intensity, and control. This blend of structure, drive, and nerve contributes to Enja’s balanced working style: serious and capable on the field, but clear and manageable off it.
When combined with Grimm de Las Flores, who brings in Ring, IPO, and PH-lineage through Holland Eran van Le Dobry (PH/PD1), Ashadow (IPO3), Veloce des Fonds de Gueule (Ring 3), and Anat des Crocs de l’Olympe (FH1, BGH3), the result is a litter with strong potential for IGP, PSA, detection, or patrol work.
These puppies are expected to have strong food and toy drive, stable nerves, full grips, and clear, confident temperaments—ideal for handlers looking to develop serious working dogs with balanced genetics.
Wako x Pytka’s Jump a Little Lighter
BRN 48238 x BRN 45326
Planned Breeding April 2026
This breeding is a combination of authentic KNPV working blood on both sides of the pedigree, reinforced by the proven stability of the Le Dobry FCI lineage. Wako carries dense KNPV producer influence, including Rocky (KNPV Policedog 369, C) and the legendary Berry II (NVBK 21406) — National Dekmeester winner and one of the most influential Dutch Shepherd producers of the modern era. Berry II is known for transmitting civil aggression, crushing full grips, fight drive, and dogs that stay clear and operational under true pressure.
Importantly, this is not a single-line concentration — Rosalita also carries Berry II and strong KNPV influence in her pedigree, doubling down on those civil, working traits. Her KNPV foundation adds depth of grip, possession, and forward character, while her FCI lineage through Holland Messi van Le Dobry, Holland Nigel van Le Dobry, and Holland Tiësto van Le Dobry brings balance, trainability, and nerve stability. The Messi line is widely respected for producing powerful dogs that remain clear-headed, environmentally stable, and highly usable across sport, service, and operational work.
Together, this cross intentionally reinforces the strength, hardness, and civil presence of the big-name KNPV producers while refining those traits with clarity, structure, and biddability from the Le Dobry genetics. The result is a purposeful line-breeding designed for power with control, intensity with intelligence, and true working character that can both compete and deploy.
